Sustainable packaging

Several companies including us are awakened when it comes to the importance of sustainability in product packaging. And this may be simply because billions of waste across the globe end up populating landfills. Therefore, it’s time to consider sustainable packaging practices that won’t just reduce environmental footprint but also increase brand loyalty with today’s consumers as well.

But the question is how?

Optimize usage of materials

In simple words, by lowering volume and mass, the packaging layers automatically gets reduced, and so on. With the help of an array of softwares such as TOPS Pro and Cape systems, one would be easily able to find out the optimal combination of the packaging material and of course, the box size. In case, if the product is not in appropriate shape or size, the software could find out the combination with great accuracy. All you need to make sure is that your product reaches the customers intact.

So, instead of choosing traditional bubble wraps look around for the modern ones or cushion rolls. These products have become pretty cost-effective and can save a lot of storage space. Basically, choose such materials that are crack resistant and have increased shock absorption capabilities.

Recyclable and biodegradable

You will come across an array of materials such as cardboard, paperboard, and plastic that can be reused or transformed into new items. Both recyclable and recycled materials are available from different sources and can be adapted pretty easily. Some of the most common materials that are biodegradable and recyclable include:

  • Corn starch- Items made from Corn starch are biodegradable. They are ideal for all types of food packaging whether they are sent through post or not. It may quite interest you to know that packages especially the ones made out of cornstarch have less to no negative impact on the environment.
  • Cardboard and paper- Being biodegradable, recyclable and reusable in nature, these Cardboard are lightweight yet strong. Ranging from medicines to frozen food to cosmetics, they can be used to pack an array of such products. For instance, think of a pizza box – it successfully helps to retain the heat and freshness of the pizza for a short time.
  • Biodegradable plastic- Whenever exposed to sunlight, this plastic decomposes on its own. Mainly used to make envelopes for bulk mailing, such products turn out to be extremely viable and practical alternative to traditional plastics.
  • Bubble wrap- Made out of recycled polyethylene is fully degradable. These innovative looking bubble wraps provide a great help in keeping your product safe.

Innovative and unique materials

Several companies or individuals prefer using pictures or texts on their packages. So what you can do is, use Inks made from milk proteins or food instead of using any chemicals that can cause harm to the environment. For example- Soy inks instead of petroleum-based ones as they come from a renewable source.
